The cold hard truth is this – if your website isn’t ranking on the first page of Google, 75% of people searching won’t find you.
There are plenty of things you can do to improve your ranking and here are 5 of the best (and easiest) that you can achieve right now.
1. Align Your Content With Search Intent
You want to find out what searches rank highest for your market and use these keywords in the content on your pages, in your page titles and meta tags and in your long form content (blog posts). Use google trends to discover which keywords get the most searches in your niche.
2. Optimise Your Images
Use ALT tags for all your images. Every. Single. One. There shouldn’t be an image on your site that doesn’t have an ALT tag. And not just any old tag – make the content useful and use the keywords appropriately and in context. Google hates cheaters, so by spending some time doing it properly you’ll start to appear in more searches.
3. Use Internal Linking
When writing copy for your website, link any poorly performing pages to ones that are ranking higher to give them a boost. Always make the links appropriate to the content and use them in context.
4. Use Long Form Content
You need to write a blog! Google loves long form content that provides information that their users are looking for. Aim to use keywords in your niche (see point 1) and practice the Goldilocks theory. Keyword terms shouldn’t be so long that the search volume for them is too low, and they shouldn’t be so short that you get drowned out by the search volume. Try and choose ones that are juuuust right! Mid-tail keywords specific to your market are the ones to aim for.
5. Optimise your Site Speed
This is probably one of the easiest ones to do as you can outsource it! Simply google the words “site speed” and any number of online options will come up. Including Google’s very own Page Speed Insights, SEMrush audits and GTMetrix that will analyse your site and give you recommendations on how you can improve it.
